During the week of March 31, 2014, through April 6, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 352 DUI arrests compared with 362 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 431 major accidents so far this year compared with 356 during the same period last year, an increase of 21.1 percent.
So far this year, there have been four traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, a decrease of 63.6 percent.
To date, two fatalities were related to drugs (1), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (1).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
