During the week of June 28, 2010, through July 4, 2010, Big Island police arrested 31 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 778 DUI arrests compared with 728 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 681 major accidents so far this year compared with 830 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.0 percent.
So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 63.6 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
