During the week of July 15, 2013, through July 21, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for drunk driving. Ten of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 678 DUI arrests compared with 762 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 760 major accidents so far this year compared with 813 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.5 percent.
So far this year, there were 19 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 20 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5 percent.
To date, four fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (2).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
