During the week of November 11, 2013, through November 17, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,161 DUI arrests compared with 1,298 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,171 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,299 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.9 percent.
So far this year, there were 24 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 36 during the same period last year, a decrease of 33.3 percent.
To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
