DUI stats for May 28-June 3 06-20-12

During the week of May 28, 2012, through June 3, 2012, Big Island police arrested 26 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

From the beginning of the year through June 3, there were 613 DUI arrests compared with 624 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There were 620 major accidents from the beginning of the year through June 3 compared with 585 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.

From the beginning of the year through June 3, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 10 during the same period last year, an increase of 40 percent.

As of June 3, five fatalities were related to drugs (4), alcohol (1), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
