Media Release (corrects fatality count)

A 54-year-old Hilo man who was critically injured in a motor vehicle/pedestrian collision on August 12, 2008 on Kamehameha Avenue just south of Kumu Street has died.

The victim was identified as Steven H. Kepano of a Hilo address.

Kepano died Friday evening (August 15, 2008) at 6:20 p.m. at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

A negligent homicide investigation has been initiated and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 15th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared to 23 at the same time last year.
