…arrested in a theft investigation

Media Release

Big Island police arrested a 49-year-old Hilo man for second-degree theft in connection with an alleged scheme to deceive an elderly Hilo woman out of thousands of dollars. The woman reported being charged for work on her home that wasn’t completed.

As part of an ongoing investigation, detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section arrested Herbert Namohala on Tuesday afternoon (June 22). He was later released pending additional investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information about this investigation call Acting Lieutenant Reed Mahuna at 961-2252. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
