The Hawai’i Police Department is reminding Big Island residents that hunting or possession of a firearm is NOT permitted on privately-owned, agriculture-zone land in the County of Hawai’i without written permission from the landowner. Only persons traveling to and from public hunting areas on legal hunting days are allowed to be in possession of hunting arms.
Persons caught with firearms on private lands without appropriate documentation can be arrested for felony firearms violations, which carry the possibility of five or more years of incarceration.
For more information, you may call Officer Michael DeCoito at 962-2120.
