Media Release

The Hawai’i Police Department has initiated an assault case in connection with an infant with suspicious injuries.

Shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday (June 18), South Kohala patrol officers responded to North Kohala Community Hospital to a report of a 6-month old boy with an apparent brain injury. Attending physicians determined that the infant was suffering from internal head injuries.

The baby and his mother were flown to Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children so the infant could receive further treatment.

Detectives assigned to the Area II Juvenile Aid Section are continuing the investigation.
