A Ka’u man is in police custody in connection with a rifle that was reportedly fired in a residential area.

On Sunday (November 14), Ka’u patrol officers responded to a 4:55 p.m. report of a gunshot fired outside a home on Māmalahoa Highway in Nā’ālehu.

Officers obtained information that a couple had been involved in a domestic dispute and that the man had fired a rifle into the air and then fled. Police searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

At 11 p.m. Monday, police arrested 36-year-old Regulo Jara of Nā’ālehu on suspicion of reckless endangering. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
