John Reece
…charged with attempted murder

Media Release

A 59-year-old Kailua-Kona man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses in connection with a domestic dispute Wednesday (December 17).

Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a domestic argument Wednesday evening on Haoa Street in Kailua-Kona. Upon arrival, they determined that John Reece had wrapped a belt around his wife’s neck and attempted to strangle her. The 50-year-old victim had screamed for help and neighbors had come to her assistance. The woman had been able to flee from the home.

The officers arrested Reece for felony abuse of a family/household member.

After consulting with prosecutors, Detectives from the Juvenile Aid Section charged Reece on Thursday (December 18) with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening and felony abuse of a family/household member. His bail was set at $22,000.

He is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance this morning (December 19).
