Big Island police are investigating an attempted robbery over the weekend in Kona.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. Sunday, a 43-year-old Kailua-Kona man was confronted by three unknown males in a parking lot in downtown Kailua-Kona. The victim was struck on his head three or four times by one of the males, who used an unknown metal object, and then was pushed to the ground. The males attempted to search the victim’s pockets but were unable to take the victim’s wallet.

The suspects were last seen fleeing the area on foot toward Kuakini Highway. The victim suffered lacerations to his head and a swollen cheek but refused medical treatment. Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.
