A Kona man is in police custody in connection with a stabbing Tuesday (October 5) in South Kona.

Kona patrol officers responded to the stabbing at 6:47 p.m. along Māmalahoa Highway in Ho’okena, where a 34-year-old Hōnaunau man reported that he had been arguing with a male acquaintance when the man stabbed him.

The victim sustained cuts to his chest and arm. Fire rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

At 9:20 a.m. Wednesday (October 6), police arrested 51-year-old Mark Knittle of Ho’okena on suspicion of second-degree assault. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
