As part of the investigation into the disappearance of Dawn GAMBSKY, Hilo Criminal Investigation Section Detectives executed a search warrant on the GAMBSKY property, located on 37th Avenue, in the Orchidland Estates Subdivision.

The search warrant was obtained specifically to locate possible burial sites on the property.

The search warrant was executed on August 8, 2008, at approximately 6:00 p.m. A possible burial site was located on the property, and the excavation of the site commenced.

On August 9, 2008, Detectives unearthed skeletal remains from the burial site. The remains were transported to the Hilo Medical Center for autopsy and identification.

On August 12, 2008, an autopsy was conducted on the remains. Utilizing dental records, the remains were positively identified as Dawn K. Gambsky, also known as Dawn K. Mancilla.

The investigation is continuing to ascertain cause of death. The case has been reclassified as a Coroner’s Inquest.

GAMBSKY was reported missing to the police on July 27, 2008, by a friend who had not seen her since January 2008.
