Chief Harry S. Kubojiri has promoted Mitchell Kanehailua to the rank of major and assigned him to the Area II Operations Division in West Hawaiʻi.

Kanehailua, who joined the Police Department in 1984, has held previous assignments in Kona, Hilo, South Kohala, Hāmākua, Laupāhoehoe and Puna.

His most recent position was as captain of the Area I Criminal Investigations Division in East Hawaiʻi, where he was commander of the Criminal Investigations Section, the Vice Section and the Juvenile Aid Section.

The promotion to major took effect March 1.
