The Hawaii Police Department is looking for witnesses to a moped crash in Kailua-Kona on September 9.

A 56-year-old Kailua-Kona woman wearing a pink helmet was riding a moped north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway around 8 p.m. She was found lying at the white line of the shoulder .1 mile south of Malulani Street with the moped on top of her.

She was taken to Kona Community Hospital and then transferred to a hospital on Oahu for treatment of her injuries.

Police ask anyone who may have seen the incident to call Officer Ellsworth Fontes at 326-4646, extension 245, or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
