…’Officer of the Month’

Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Erich Jackson as "Officer of the Month" for November in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (November 4) at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Jackson was honored for his arrest of an armed convicted felon in possession of drugs.

During a routine patrol, Officer Jackson observed several indicators that the man was under the influence of drugs and noticed items in his car indicating drugs were present. He obtained consent to search the vehicle and recovered morphine, marijuana, oxycodone, miscellaneous prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and a .38 Special Derringer, which was loaded, cocked and ready to fire. A subsequent search warrant of the man’s storage locker produced a handgun, a fully-automatic submachine gun and ammunition.

The man was charged with several drug and weapons offenses, including 12 felonies.

Captain Chad Basque, who nominated Jackson for the honor, said the officer used his "impressive investigative skills" to take drugs and weapons off the streets of Kona.

As "Officer of the Month," Jackson is eligible to become "Officer of the Year."

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
