Aaron Loges
…’Officer of the Month’ for Kona

Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Aaron Loges as "Officer of the Month" for March in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (March 3) at Paddlers Restaurant at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Loges was honored for arresting 15 people in January for driving under the influence. In addition, Loges arrested five of those offenders for driving without no-fault insurance, one for driving without a license and one for having an open container of liquor in a motor vehicle.

Lieutenant Harold Sumaoang, who nominated Loges for the award, noted that none of the 15 DUI arrests were for drivers who had been involved in a traffic collision. "This meant that Officer Loges was proactive in his efforts rather than just reactive (responding to assignments from dispatch)," Sumaoang wrote. "His actions actually prevented traffic crashes from occurring and presumably saved not only the suspects from injury and death but also protected the innocent motorist on the highway from becoming a statistic."

As "Officer of the Month," Loges is eligible to become "Officer of the Year."

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
