Hilo police have initiated a murder investigation into the discovery of a man’s body yesterday afternoon (September 9) in the Onomea area. Condition of the body led investigators to believe that foul play may have caused his death.

Investigators would like to speak with the anonymous individual who called Crime Stoppers to report hearing gunshots fired in that area.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning to determine the exact cause of death. 

Police ask that anyone with information about this investigation to call Lieutenant Mitchell Kanehailua at 961-2252 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
