Hawaii County Police Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna has promoted five officers to higher ranks effective Friday (May 16.)

Larry Weber was promoted to major. He now heads the Administrative Bureau’s Technical Services Division, which includes Communications Maintenance, Communications Dispatch, the Computer Center, Traffic Services and Records and Identification. He previously was captain of the Criminal Investigations Division in Area I.

Randall Medeiros, Andrew Burian, Richard Miyamoto and Chad Basque were promoted to captain.

Medeiros, who was lieutenant in charge of the Criminal Investigations Section in Area I, now oversees the Area I Criminal Investigations Division, which includes the Criminal Investigations Section, the Vice Section and the Juvenile Aid Section.

Burian is now commander of the Ka’u District. He previously served as lieutenant in charge of Community Policing.

Miyamoto, who previously was an acting lieutenant in South Hilo Patrol, now commands the North Kohala District.

Basque is now captain of Kona Patrol. He recently had been serving there as acting captain.
