Hawaii Police Department detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 33-year-old man at Puhi Bay in Hilo.

On Sunday (October 5) at 9:07 a.m., Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a fight and gunshots. They found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:20 a.m. He was identified as Cameron Mauga of Hilo.

Shortly after the shooting, police arrested a 31-year-old man on Kauhane Street. He remains in police custody.

Hilo detectives are continuing the investigation into this incident, which has been classified as a second-degree murder.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Norbert Serrao at 961-2383 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
