Media Release (update)

An autopsy performed on the remains of an unidentified man found in the lower Puna subdivision of Kalapana Seaview Estates did not result in a determination of an exact cause of death. The autopsy found no indications of foul play in the man’s death.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the Puna subdivision Monday (April 21) when a resident reported locating the remains on a parcel near his property. The body was located in the vicinity of a rustic cabin surrounded by waist-high vegetation.

The advanced stage of decomposition made it impossible to immediately identify the decedent. Other methods of identifying the remains will be employed.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation. The case remains classified as a coroner’s inquest.
