A Japanese visitor apparently drowned Monday (October 22) off the Kohala Coast.

At 2:04 p.m., Monday, South Kohala patrol officers responded to a report of a possible drowning in waters fronting a resort located on Kaniku Drive. Arriving officers learned that resort personnel had pulled an unconscious male snorkeler from the water and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The 35-year old victim, identified as Takashi Nakayama, was taken to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest. They have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
