Witnesses sought in Honomu crash 12-26-13

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating witnesses to a serious traffic collision Sunday (December 22) on Highway 19 (Hawaiʻi Belt Road) near the Akaka Falls Road junction in Honomū.

The 9:53 a.m. crash involved head-on crash between a Pontiac Vibe traveling southbound and a Toyota Camry traveling northbound.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 20-year-old Honomū woman, was taken to Hilo Medical Center with serious injuries, as were the driver of the Toyota, a 67-year-old Hilo woman, and her two passengers, a 69-year-old Hilo man and a 75-year-old Hilo woman.

Police have initiated negligent injury investigations in connection with this crash.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Officer Gabriel Wilson at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
