11 nabbed for DUI as part of national campaign 07-17-03

MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

As part of a national crackdown on drunk driving over the July 4 weekend, Big Island police arrested 11 persons for drunk driving during the recent “You Drink & Drive You Lose” campaign.

The campaign, aimed at protecting citizens from drunk drivers during the holidays, ran from June 27 through July 13. It consisted of 13 DUI checkpoints, two under-aged drinking details and saturated patrols.

In addition to the 11 DUI arrests, 11 other persons were arrested for under-aged drinking in public places, and 15 were arrested for various traffic offenses. A total of 48 citations for traffic violations were also issued.
