58-year old male dies after snorkeling incident 10-26-04

A 58-year old male that was pulled out, unconscious from the waters of Anaehoomalu Bay on Saturday (October 23, 2004) was pronounced dead today (October 26, 2004) at the North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea, South Kohala.

The victim was identified as Douglas Elliot, of a California address.

Elliot was reported snorkeling at Anaehoomalu Bay at about 12:00 p.m. Saturday when he became unconscious. His snorkeling companion and a bystander brought his unconscious body to shore and he was then transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was admitted into the critical care unit.

Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
