Big Island roads closed because of flooding 01-23-04

Big Island police are warning motorists in South Kohala that Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kawaihae Road (Route 19) from Mauna Lani north to the 62- to 65-mile marker has been closed to traffic.

Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) in Ka’u between the 57- and 59-mile marker has also been closed to traffic.

Traffic was closed Friday afternoon (January 23, 2004) because of flooding caused by heavy rains.

Motorists elsewhere are also cautioned to drive with special care because of heavy rains and throughout the Big Island.
