MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have identified a couple who were killed Saturday (March 27, 2004) in a collision between a car and a van on the Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) in Puna.

The victims were identified as Clifford Weiss, 53 (cq), of Arlington, Virginia, and his wife, Miya Nishimura, 52, of Arlington and Tokyo.

A third fatality victim was previously identified as Harry K. Makua, 65, of Kapoho.

Responding to a 1:30 p.m. call Saturday, police determined that a Dodge Neon four-door sedan driven by Weiss was traveling toward Keaau when it crossed the centerline between the eight- and nine-mile markers and collided with a Chrysler van being driven by Makua in the opposite direction.

The collision resulted in the deaths of the three occupants of the two vehicles.
