MEDIA RELEASE

Responding to the recent rash of business burglaries in Waimea, Community Policing Officers Tom Wright and Charles Lindsey will be walking the streets of Waimea in coming weeks to introduce business owners to the department’s Emergency Notification Decal System (ENDS) program.

The program is not new to the Big Island, but it had not been previously implemented in Waimea.

Under the ENDS program, the police provide two highly visible numbered decals for each participating business owner to post on the front and back of his place of business.

Each participating business owner provides the police with emergency notification information, such as phone numbers, as well as the name and contact information for the business’ security system.

This information is filed both numerically and by business name at the Police Dispatch Center in Hilo.

Should something occur, the numbering system permits patrol officers to quickly notify the business owner or manager.

There is no charge for the program. While the two community policing officers will be calling on businesses as their work schedules permit, business owners and managers are welcome to call the Waimea Police Station to schedule an appointment to join the ENDS program.

For information or an appointment, call Waimea Police Station at 887-3080 and leave a message for Officers Wright or Lindsey.
