MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

The Hawaii County Police Department has extended the signup deadline to May 13 for its “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 East Hawaii Basketball Tournament.

Sponsored by the Traffic Services Section and the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League, the tournament is scheduled for May 20-22, 2005, at the Papaikou Gymnasium.

Entries are being accepted in the following divisions: 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, High School (coed), 10 & Under Girls, 12 & Under Girls, 14 & Under Girls and High School Girls. The age cut-off is December 31, 2005.

“The goal of the tournament is to educate our parents and youth on our seat belt lawsÓ, said Sergeant Dexter Veriato, head of the Traffic Services Section. ÒClick It or TicketÓ is a national educational and enforcement campaign to increase seat belt usage and decrease traffic fatalities and injuries.

Interested teams should call Veriato at 961-2305.

Because of limited space available, teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams must complete a registration packet to enter the tournament. Packets are available at the Traffic Services Section or can be obtained by contacting Veriato.
