Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives are investigating a shooting Monday evening (January 7, 2002) in which a man was wounded while driving his car.

At 8:13 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a call from the Pahoa Fire Station reporting a victim with a gunshot wound.

On arrival, the officers found that 45-year-old man had suffered gunshot wound to left arm and a grazing wound to his chest after being fired upon by an unknown suspect while he was driving along Route 130 (Kalapana Road).

A male passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the shooting.

The victim was transported to Hilo Medical Center, where he was reported in satisfactory condition.

Police are looking for a suspect, either male or female, in a white minivan with purple trim.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspect may call Detective Albert Cortez of the Hilo CIS at 961-2379 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
