A Kailua-Kona man was charged with marijuana offenses Saturday evening (July 18) stemming from his arrest the previous day.

Investigators from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant Friday morning at a Hau Nani Street home in Kailua-Kona. There, officers discovered an indoor marijuana growing operation. Police arrested 27-year-old Ryan Costello and 22-year-old Sabrina Costello at the home on suspicion of commercial promotion of marijuana.

Continued investigation led police to serve another search warrant at a Catamaran Lane home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Subdivision. There, officers discovered another indoor marijuana growing operation.

Police recovered 137 marijuana plants, several vials containing hashish and nearly 20 pounds of processed marijuana with a street value of more than $80,000. Also seized were two automobiles and $8,650 in cash for forfeiture.

After conferring with prosecutors, police released Sabrina Costello without charges. Ryan Costello was charged with two counts of second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, five counts of drug paraphernalia, two counts of second-degree promotion of a harmful drug and one count each of first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug. His bail was set at $33,000.
