During the week of March 21-27, 2005, Big Island police arrested 15 motorists for drunk driving.

So far this year, there have been 176 DUI arrests, compared to 230 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 425 major accidents so far this year, compared to 582 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27 percent.

There have been 11 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 15 for the same period last year, a decrease of 27 percent. There have been no alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to four at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to six at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
