Media Release (correction: changes “increase” to “decrease” in second paragraph)

During the week of January 7, 2013, through January 13, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 44 DUI arrests compared with 45 during the same period last year, an decrease of 2.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 37 major accidents so far this year compared with 47 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.3 percent.

So far this year, there was one traffic fatality on Hawaiʻi Island compared with none during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
