During the week of January 21, 2013, through January 27, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Five were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 85 DUI arrests compared with 91 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 82 major accidents so far this year compared with 99 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.2 percent.

So far this year, there were seven traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with none during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
