During the week of February 27, 2012, through March 4, 2012, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 250 DUI arrests compared with 248 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 262 major accidents so far this year compared with 247 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.1 percent.

So far this year, there were six traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five during the same period last year, an increase of 20 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
