During the week of February 25, 2013, through March 3, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 210 DUI arrests compared with 249 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 228 major accidents so far this year compared with 272 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.2 percent.

So far this year, there were nine traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with six during the same period last year, an increase of 50 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
