During the week of November 20, 2007, through November 26, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,234 DUI arrests compared with 1,132 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,904 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,230 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.

So far this year, there have been 35 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 32 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
