During the week of December 11, 2007, through December 17, 2007, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 1,326 DUI arrests compared with 1,221 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 2,054 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,363 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13 percent.

So far this year, there have been 36 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 33 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
