Egg-throwing Vandals Damage 11 New Vehicles at Auto Center 04-16-01

Hilo police are requesting the public’s help in identifying a vandal or vandals who damaged new automobiles at the Orchid Isle Auto Center over the weekend.

Investigating officers said the paint finishes on 11 new vehicles were damaged by vandals splattering them with raw eggs. The vandalism occurred sometime between Saturday night (April 14, 2001) and Monday morning.

The total amount of damage to the vehicles was estimated at $20,000 to $30,000.

Anyone with information about the crime or the identity of those responsible is asked to call Officer Vince Sivankeo of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2213 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
