MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo police captured an escaped inmate Friday (January 31, 2003) inside a private residence on East Puainako Street.

The escapee, identified as Raylad Hauole Brown, 25, had fled the Hale Nani Correctional Facility the day before.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a 3:38 p.m. call from residents in the area that a man matching Brown’s description had been seen running through neighborhood yards.

On arrival, officers noticed that a screen and several louvers had been removed at a house in the area, and they found a slipper under the window. They then located the escapee inside the residence and arrested him for escape and burglary.

Brown was being held in the Hilo police cellblock Friday evening pending further investigation.

Hale Nani authorities said Brown had escaped from the facility about 2 p.m. Thursday
