MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have released the name of a visitor killed in a one-car crash that occurred on July 14, 2000, in the Puuanahulu area of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190), Kona District.

The victim was identified as a Tammy Jo Loveless, 31, of Queen Creek, Arizona.

Loveless was a passenger in a rented 2000 Jeep Wrangler being driven by her husband, Jared Loveless, 31, when the vehicle ran off the makai shoulder, struck an embankment and overturned at about the 23-mile marker. Mrs. Loveless, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Her husband, who had his seatbelt fastened, remained in the truck.

Jared Loveless had initially been transported to the Kona Community Hospital, then later flown to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he is currently recovering from his injuries.

Mrs. Loveless’ death was the 21st traffic fatality on that date. The number of traffic fatalities has since increased to 24.
