MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have identified a Big Island man who died Saturday night (November 25, 2000) in a motorcycle crash in the Kaohe area of South Kona.

The victim has been identified as Anson Nazarro, 52, of Volcano.

Nazarro was riding his 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in the area of the 98-mile marker when he crossed the centerline, ran off the left shoulder of the road and struck an embankment. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained head injuries.

Nazarro was transported to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing the investigation.

This was the 33rd traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 28 at the same time last year.
