Fifteen Arrested in Hilo Liquor Sweep 05/01/00

MEDIA RELEASE

Fifteen persons, five of them juveniles, were arrested for liquor and other violations in parks and other public areas in Hilo on Friday and Saturday nights (April 28 and 29, 2000).

The 10 adults and five juveniles were arrested for violating liquor, underage drinking, litter and curfew laws.

A special crime reduction unit comprised of Community Policing and Juvenile Aid Section officers conducted the sweep during the hours of 9 p.m. through 3 a.m.

Among the areas checked were Reeds Bay, Coconut Island, Banyan Drive, Leleiwi Beach Park, Honolii and Puhi Bay.

The sweep was part of an ongoing operation conducted to keep public places safe for the public to enjoy.

Community Policing and Juvenile Aid Section officers are reminding residents that consuming alcoholic beverages in public areas is in violation of the law.
