Four arrested in Ka’u drug bust 04-23-04

West Hawaii Vice Section and Ice Task Force officers arrested three persons Thursday (April 22, 2004) for a variety of drug offenses after executing a search warrant for narcotics at a residence in Waiohinu in Ka’u.

Another occupant of the residence was arrested Friday after he was located working at an elementary school where he was employed.

The suspects arrested were identified as:

  • Gary Delos Santos, 56, of Waiohinu, for one count each of promoting dangerous drugs and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.
  • Michael Delos Santos, 25, of Waiohinu, for two counts of promoting of a dangerous, two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of promoting a detrimental drug.
  • David Akana, 57, of Pahala, and William Lawson, 53, of Honolulu, for three counts of promoting dangerous drugs, three counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of promoting detrimental drugs and one count of promoting harmful drugs.

All of the suspects were also arrested for criminal conspiracy.

During the investigation, officers seized 468.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice”; a small amount of marijuana and an unknown powder substance; 15 unknown pills; and “ice” pipes, Ziploc bags, scales and other drug paraphernalia.

Officers also seized $566 in cash and a vehicle for possible forfeiture.

All of the suspects are being in Kona police cellblock pending further investigation.

Police are also seeking possible federal prosecution in the case.
