Big Island police have identified the victim in Tuesday’s (June 19) fatal shooting in Puna’s Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision as 28-year-old Jeremy Napoleon of Keaau.

The suspect, who was later involved in a fatal one-car accident in the District of North Kohala, has been identified as 45-year old Noel Smith of Kurtistown.

A firearm was recovered at the scene of Smith’s accident at Akoni Pule Highway in North Kohala. Hilo Detectives are not yet able to confirm whether the firearm is related to the shooting in Puna.

Detectives are still investigating the relationship between the victim and suspect, as well as a motive for the shooting.

Autopsies are scheduled for Friday (June 22) at Hilo Medical Center to determine the exact causes of both deaths.
