The Hawaiʻi Police Department will participate in two HI-PAL “Click It Or Ticket” events during the month of July.

On Saturday, July 20, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at the Kekuokalani gymnasium in Kailua-Kona. This event is opened to youth in the following age ranges: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, girls 10 and under, girls 14 and under, high school boys and girls. The deadline to complete the registration packet and enter this event is July 17.

Wednesday, July 31, is the first day of the four-day “Jimmy Yagi Hoops” camp in which the HI-PAL program is a co-sponsor and the “Click It Or Ticket” message is part of the focus. The daytime camps will be held at the Hilo Civic Auditorium and Panaʻewa covered courts.

Teams interested in participating or anyone needing additional information on either event may call Officer Joseph Botelho Jr. in East Hawaiʻi at 961-2220, Officer Randy Morris in West Hawaiʻi at 326-4646, extension 258, or the Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks and Recreation at 961-8740 for the “Jimmy Yagi Hoops” camps.

“Click It Or Ticket” is a national education and enforcement campaign to increase seat belt use and decrease traffic fatalities and injuries. The Hawaiʻi Police Department encourages all youth, teens and adults to use their seat belts.
