The Hawaii Island Police Activities League will sponsor its 19th annual HI-PAL Winter Basketball Classic on December 26-29, 1999, in Hilo.

The tournament will feature five age groups: 9-10 Division, 11-12 Division, 13-14 Division, Girls 12 and Under Division and Girls 14 and Under Division.

The tournament games will be played at various gymnasiums in the Hilo area. The 9-10 Division games will be played at the Piihonua Gym; 11-12 Division at the Boys and Girls Club; 13-14 Division at the Hilo Armory; Girls 12 and Under Division at the Waiakea-Uka Gym; and Girls 14 and Under Division at Andrews Gym.

More than 80 teams from the Big Island and Oahu, plus a team from California, are expected to compete in this year’s tournament, one of the largest age group basketball tournaments in the state.

The games will start at 8 a.m. daily at each of the respective gyms and continue throughout the weekend. All third place and championship games in each division will be played at the Hilo Armory on Thursday, December 29, 1999.

HI-PAL invites the community to attend and support the youngsters as they participate and compete for this year’s tournament championships.
