A 48-year-old Hilo man died Monday (August 7, 2006) from injuries he received in an auto crash on Kilauea Avenue in Hilo.

Police received a 12:29 p.m. report of the crash and determined that the man was the sole occupant of a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north on Kilauea Avenue. The truck crossed the centerline at Palai Street, clipped a utility pole and struck two parked vehicles.

A Fire Department ambulance took the driver to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police believe the crash may have been caused by a medical condition. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing the investigation.
