South Hilo Community Policing officers arrested and charged eight persons Friday night (March 5, 1999) for drinking illegally in public places.

Checks conducted at public park areas in Hilo resulted in eight arrests for intoxicating liquor prohibited in public places and six arrests of minors for illegal possession of liquor. Three of those arrested were minors younger than 18.

The arrests were made in Wailoa State Park and Leleiwi Beach Park and along Kalanianaole Street in Keaukaha.

Friday’s sweep was part of an ongoing operation conducted to keep public places safe for the public to enjoy.
